what's left behind is an ongoing series that transforms the overlooked remnants of the printmaking process into works of their own. What began as an act of curiosity becomes an essential part of the practice—an approach that values process as much as the final outcome. Each print captures the traces left behind in the act of making: the imprint of a rag used to wipe away ink, the residue on a glass inking table, the marks on the back of a plate, or the textures pressed into sponges. These collected impressions are printed on available paper, their scale determined by the materials at hand. Centered on the page, they act as both records and objects in their own right, distilling a moment of creation into a tangible form.

By shifting focus to what is often discarded, what's left behind highlights the unseen labor of artistic production. It resists erasure, making visible the process itself rather than just the finished work. In doing so, it invites a closer look at the traces left behind—both in making and in being.

PROCESS & TECHNIQUES

The what’s left behind series transforms the remnants of printmaking into fully realized compositions, emphasizing the traces left by the artistic process itself. These works are created from the byproducts of various printmaking techniques, capturing the residual marks of ink, cleaning rags, inking tables, plate impressions, and other overlooked elements that emerge during the printmaking process.

Each piece is formed through monotype impressions (a printmaking technique where ink is typically applied directly to a smooth surface, traditionally plexiglass or metal, and then transferred to paper), where ink left on a surface—whether on a plate, glass inking slab, or printing tools—is transferred onto paper, creating unique textures and compositions. These impressions serve as an archive of process, documenting the fleeting and often discarded traces that are typically overlooked and simply cleaned-up in preparation for the next print. The resulting pieces preserve the beauty within the labor of the printmaking process, elevating what was once considered disposable into intentional and contemplative works.

MEDIUM & MATERIALS

  • Paper: A variety of professional-grade printmaking paper, chosen for their ability to hold ink and capture residual textures.

  • Inks: Water-based printmaking inks.

SIZE

Works in this series vary in size, ranging from small works (A5, approximately 14 × 21 cm) to larger compositions (A3, approximately 30 × 42 cm), depending on the nature of the repurposed materials.

EDITION & CERTIFICATION

This series consists of one-of-a-kind artworks, as each piece is uniquely composed from distinct paper remnants. No two works are identical. Each piece is hand-signed on the back of the artwork and on the frame itself and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity including an image, detailing the title, materials, and date of creation.

FRAMING & MATTING

Each work is sold unframed, allowing collectors the flexibility to frame the piece according to their preferences. However, custom framing is available upon request. The frames and mats offered are sourced in Paris but are made in Bordeaux, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and a natural aesthetic that complements the artwork.

  • Framing is provided by a French framer based in Bordeaux, specializing in high-quality, locally crafted frames.

  • Frames are made in French Oak Wood and include glass protection.

  • Custom matting is also available upon request. Each mat extra thick and is professionally cut to order, adding an additional layer of refinement to the artwork.

  • Please note that if a custom mat is ordered, an additional 7-10 business days should be considered for handling time before shipping.

For framing or matting requests, please fill out the form here.

ARCHIVAL QUALITY

The materials used in this series are carefully selected for their archival properties, ensuring the longevity of the artwork. Archival quality means that the inks, papers, and adhesives are acid-free, lightfast, and resistant to degradation over time. This ensures that the artwork retains its vibrancy and structure for generations to come with proper care.

  • Inks are lightfast and fade-resistant, preserving the vibrancy of the pieces over time.

  • Papers are acid-free, preventing yellowing and degradation.

  • Collage elements and adhesives used are carefully selected to ensure long-term stability without compromising the integrity of the work.

ARTWORK CARE

To preserve the quality of the artwork:

  • Keep the piece out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.

  • If framing, use UV-protective glass to further safeguard pigments against environmental damage.

  • Avoid excessive humidity to protect the paper from warping.

  • Handle the artwork with clean, dry hands to prevent transferring oils to the paper surface.
